About me
Welcome to my website. I'm lucky enough to share my life with a pack of salukis in North Carolina. I first became involved with the breed in 2011. At that time, I was in graduate school and finishing my thesis up and thought that was a pretty good time to get a Saluki. On nearly a whim, I traveled to the SCOA national specialty, booking my hotel a mere few days before the show to check out a litter that I knew was being brought there.
Thus started my show journey in fall 2011 taking out a very immature puppy to a multitude of shows. It took me a while to make progress with my skinny puppy and novice handling, but we were learning to be a team, and I was learning to handle while he was maturing. I finished his championship a few years later with a 4 point major BOW and OH group 4, and was lucky enough that his breeder was able to be there!
Emir was a great dog to take lure coursing, as he's always been very keen on the lure. His and my introduction to the sport of lure coursing has developed my ideal, dogs who are capable of both looking like a Saluki and functioning as a Saluki when tested. Although I haven't made it out to live game coursing yet due to geographical limitations, I hope to do that sometime in the future. As for now, the plastic bunny must suffice.
In 2013, I was looking for a companion for Emir, and for another show & coursing prospect for myself. I chose to go with kennel "Khamsin" from Susie Konopa in Canada because she has produced a wonderful bunch of dual titled dogs with fabulous temperaments. In Fall of 2013, I picked up Najib after making a very tough choice between a few littermates. Najib had a wonderful career in the show ring, far exceeding my expectations, and really made me fall in love with showing dogs.
Since Najib, I have continued on the journey with his daughter, Jazz, and others.
I am currently a member of the the Saluki Club of America and the Saluki Club of Canada.
